Why I let my kids watch YouTube last night (advice is appreciated)

Published about 1 month ago • 3 min read

Hi Reader!

"Who is that? I don't remember him."

It's kind of shocking that we couldn't remember one of the guys helping in our fields in 2021. [continued below].

Come to Be Inspired by Your Farm Community

At a Meet the Farmer Event in Lehighton, Reuben and I were attempting to talk to employees on their lunch break about eating more organic vegetables this summer.

Willow Haven Farm TV was playing on my IPAD in the background.

Actually, it was our YouTube Channel playing through all 193 videos one after the other.

Reuben first noticed an old tractor that we happened to see in one of the videos I took in spring of 2021. He doesn't watch my videos very often.

The unfamiliar guy was... our own son, Simeon. Ha!

Boy has he changed in 5 years!

Isn't it fun to watch "Rewinds" or "Reruns" of old shows?

Even more fun is watching old family movies or videos.

With all the digital pictures and movies that we take with the phones in our pocket how often do we re-watch and enjoy those captured moments.

I'm guilty.

Now that photos aren't printed, my kids rarely see the pictures I take because I don't have many photo albums or scrapbooks printed.

But last night I let the kids do something I've never done before.

Instead of watching a movie after their bath, K and P watched our Willow Haven Farm Youtube Channel Playlist.

Seeing their siblings doing the farm work and making silly faces starting in February 2019 was really fun!

Even I was cracking up at the "monkey ears" and silly questions in this particular video.

That was back in 2019 when we only had a 20 week vegetable CSA instead the year round Market Box CSA we offer now.

One thing hasn't changed.

Coming to the farm on Saturdays is a highlight for our farm members.

Loving the work we do motivates us to connect our community to your food so you can trust what you are putting into your body.

Do you take time to enjoy memories with your kids or grandkids?

Or do you need to stop and take a moment to enjoy those memories, like me?

I'd love your ideas and advice on how to share family memories better with our kids.

I need to get better to prepared for my grandbaby on the way, too!

If you have any advice for me, send it my way. I could use some ideas that I can fit into this new stage of life.

As Always...

We support your desire to have a good, healthy way of life and food on your table that supports that goal.

We'll keep farming for you!

Growing up on my family's farm in Pennsylvania, I never would have pictured the life I live at Willow Haven farm. As a kid I spent summers in our large family garden we called, “The Truck Patch”. I helped mom every summer, picking beans, weeding, and cutting fruit and vegetables for the hundreds of jars of canned and frozen produce we put up. Now I spends less time out in the field and more time in the kitchen doing the same preserving for my own farm family. Farmer Reuben values my many hours doing much of the behind the scenes marketing, writing emails to cultivate customers and capturing the farm story each week. I'm always learning along the way in my quest to improve the farm experience for each of her current and future farm members in our 500+ member, year-round customized farm box delivery program. Reading our stories will connect you with your food in a way you never experienced before. Someday soon you will want to fit local food into your life and we'll be here to help you.

Hi Reader, Can You Grow One Thing? The only thing better than a Market Box is growing your own food. Which you should do! So you can experience the freshness and satisfaction of picking food from the ground and putting it in your mouth immediately. Cherry tomatoes and cucumbers are perfect for this but even a planter of lettuce, herbs or kale is great too. Reuben's first farm job,...
